The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation asks you to dedicate a few hours to help find a cure for a disease which affects hundreds of thousands of children. Thousands are expected to take part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's "Walk to Cure Diabetes" on Saturday.

News 3's Mitch Truswell explains that those with Type 1 Diabetes, or Juvenile Diabetes, have the disease for life. That includes one woman who's been waiting for a cure for 27 years.

Jodie Page isn't a juvenile, but she is just one of hundreds of adults in our valley afflicted by a disease they don't want.

"One thing about Diabetes that people don't understand is that it's 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You never have a break from it," explains Jodie. "What you eat, if you exercise, if you're sick...all these factors take a toll on your Diabetes care and what your blood sugars are."

Jodie works in customer relations for Pulte Homes. She does a finger prick several times throughout her work day to check her blood sugar. And if needed, she'll deliver insulin through her insulin pump.

Jodie figures that since her diagnosis, she's had 170,000 insulin shots and 70,000 finger pricks. Her dream, and the dream of her four children whom also have Diabetes, is a cure.

That's why Jodie is participating in the "Walk to Cure Diabetes" with News 3's Mitch Truswell on October 11 at UNLV. Registration begins at 8 am and the walk starts at 9am. For more information, call 732-4795.
