USF proposes hospital dedicated to diabetes

The University of South Florida is proposing to build a hospital exclusively dedicated to diabetes.

According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, the university had asked for legislative help to build a regular hospital on campus before, but were denied.

Now, school officials have brought the idea of building a hospital that focuses on diabetes to the table. The university has recently brought in $400 million research grants, thanks in large part to the efforts of researchers like Dr. Jeffrey Krischer, a biostatistician whose work focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of Type I diabetes around the world.

There are no definite plans in place for the hospital, nor have any feasibility studies or pieces of model legislation been developed.
